Client Reviews
‘After putting a post out asking for a good family solicitor NjP was mentioned multiple times and you can see why. They’re not your average solicitors. Very welcoming, laid back, easy to talk to, but with the assurance you are in good solid hands. You can tell they have your best interests at heart from the off.’

Changing Childs Name FAQs
A change of name deed is a legal document that enables you to formalise your child’s new name and use it for all purposes. By having a change of name deed, you can:
- Avoid confusion and delay caused by discrepancies between your child’s old and new names in official documents, such as passport, GP records, school records or reports etc.
- Assert your child’s new identity.
- Obtain a record of your child’s name change that can be useful for future reference or proof of the name change.
To change your child’s name you need to meet the following requirements:
- Have parental consent from the other parent (if they have parental responsibility).
- Be a British citizen or resident.
- Have a clear and valid reason for changing your child’s name e.g. re-married or personal preference.
- Choose a new name that is not offensive, misleading, or too long or complex to be practical.
- Sign the deed poll in the presence of witnesses who is not related to you or your partner, and who can confirm your identity and intention (the deeds we provide do not need to be registered).
To obtain a child’s change of name deed, you can follow these steps:
- Contact a Solicitor who will draft the deed for you.
- Sign the form in the presence of your witness (your Solicitor) who should also sign and date it.
- Send copies of the signed form to relevant organisations, such as schools, passport offices etc. and ask them to update their records with your child’s new name.
- Use your child’s new name with confidence and informally inform your friends, family, and colleagues.
The cost of a change of name deed varies depending on the provider and the options offered, such as additional copies, certified copies, or postage. You can expect to pay between £10 and £100 for a basic deed that you can do online yourself, and £100 - £400 for a change of name deed drafted by a Solicitor. Make sure you compare the prices and features of different providers before making a decision, and beware of scams or hidden fees.
